For Day 4 of 31 Days of Horror, I watched Jennifer Reeder’s newest film Perpetrator.

Talk about an absolute weird, bat crap crazy film. I sort of liked it.

The film I’m referring to is Perpetrator (2023). Written and directed by Jennifer Reeder, this film is like a pot of boiling water. Sure, you watch it because you want to make sure that it won’t bubble over, but then you start to lose interest in it, and you look away. The next time you turn your attention to it, the water’s frothing and spilling over the sides.

The story follows Jonny, played by Kiah McKirnan. Jonny is a wild and impulsive teenager that’s trying to steal enough stuff to buy her way out of town. The town just so happens to be a place where young women continue to go missing. Jonny’s dad leaves her so he can get mentally get his stuff together. Jonny goes to live with a relative by the name of Hildie, played by Alicia Silverstone. Hildie helps Jonny come to terms with her supernatural powers that she develops having turned the age of 18.

Jonny bands together with a couple of her high school peers and they go about trying to take down the person (or thing) that is kidnapping all the women.

If you look at Rotten Tomatoes, you’ll find that Perpetrator is one of those films where the critics loved it, but the…
