Youtube has changed our lives and for the better.
Youtube is the one stop shop for whatever you need. The platform has everything from how to change your tire videos to adorable cat videos. I think it’s important to note it’s not all about entertainment, but also a place of wide range of opportunities. What I find the most fascinating about this platform is that you are able to make a career out of posting content. Many people have left their typical 9-to-5 jobs for the unpredictable yet exciting world of YouTube. If you have a passion for something specific, whether it’s beauty, gaming, or even unboxing the latest products, YouTube provides a platform for you to display your talents. The accomplishments of self-made YouTubers are not only inspiring, but also demonstrate the platform’s power to transform hobbies into full-time careers. The main source of income is through ads and paid sponsorships. I also think as more and more people become apart of this platform they can’t just rely on youtube. These creators need to have other platforms such as instagram, snapchat and tik tok to continue their success and truly get their name out there.
Something I find super important about this platform is it gives people the opportunity to learn. A channel on youtube I find so incredible is called “Dad, How Do I?”. This account is a man who teaches how to do things your dad would typically teach you such as shaving, tying a tie and even jumping a car. For people who don’t have a father figure to teach them these things this man takes the initiative to help anyone he can. He calls himself “the internet dad”. His mission is beautiful and so heartwarming. Although, he is able to make money for doing this job. He doesn't care about that. He cares about helping others as well as being able to have a platform. Which I think is the most important thing youtube has to offer. An outlet for people to have a platform to show off their niche, passion and big hearts.
A few summers ago I had the amazing opportunity to intern for a youtuber. I would go into the city everyday and help her in any way she needed! Despite it being a greater learning experience I learned a lot about the field of youtube. She’s able to live the life she wants and record all of it to share with others. She always use to tell me her favorite part about the job was the community. She would say how her subscribers were her friends. Every time she posted a video she said it felt like a FaceTime call with her friends. Youtube creates such an amazing community and a place for like minded people to talk. She was able to build off her youtube career and make a clothing company, podcast and even was featured on the cover of Harpers Bazaar.
While posting on youtube can be fun and also a job it truly opens the door to many new and exciting opportunities for yourself. People always post how they never thought it’d be possible to have the experiences they’ve been lucky to have. With content creation becoming bigger and bigger everyday. I think youtube has really changed our lives for the better.
