Esoteric derives from the Greek “esōtérō” and means “further inside.”

Therefore, everything that we hide within ourselves is esoteric.

In fact, in the ancient tradition from which the word itself comes — Greece — the term esoteric initially referred to the secret teachings of the Greek philosophers.

Today, there are no longer toga-wearing philosophers on our streets, but there are sages, even in the most unlikely places, such as Hollywood.

For me, one of those new modern Greek philosophers is Jim Carrey, and here are three secret lessons I read between the lines, watching dozens of his interviews and reading hundreds of articles about him.

1. Difference between depression and sadness.

“Sadness has to do with what is going on or happened to you or didn’t happen. Depression is your body saying, ‘Fuck you, I don’t want to be this character anymore, I don’t want to hold this avatar that you’ve created for me in this world anymore.” — Jim Carrey.
