It contains a torn page from a diary with cryptic words. “The truth will destroy us all.” This clue raises questions. What truth? Who wanted it hidden? Where is the mayor?
Every character should add to the intrigue. Your protagonist might not know whom to trust. Readers should feel the same way. Introduce characters with unclear motivations and keep their intentions concealed.
