fe·lic·i·ty (noun)
consider the pull-to-refresh gesture
ubiquitous in mobile and tablet
software it has become second nature
to use a casual flick of the thumb to update
as if to drag the near future into the now this
motion is no inevitability
loren brichter designed the feature
to improve flaws he observed in twitter
intuition it seems can be engineered
and even stars obey the laws of physics
in his famous ten principles
dieter rams states that good design
must make a product understandable
familiar from the first interaction
the way souls recognize kindred selves
from twin galaxies mirrored in eyes
and murmur now this i know
the best design in essence is so natural
and effortless as to be invisible
there should be no need for explanation
it simply is
as it should be
beautiful in its very rightness
i remember the this-can’t-be-real-life-i-swear-this-
is-a-rom-com night we went to a jazz bar in a dim
cellar then wandered to a coffee shop down
the block where we talked so long that the buses stopped
running and you walked me back to my apartment as we
ambled through downtown austin at one
in the morning you danced in the middle
of the street when i didn’t want to cross at the red
light even though there were no cars
on the road we passed a grassy hill being watered
by sprinklers and the valley in the center
of the plaza was a black hole so i
threw off my shoes and my earrings and rolled down
into it while you leapt through horizontal waterfalls
because there was no gravity left on earth
damp grass clung to my legs and back
like a promise and your shirt was soaked
with happiness and water and when we walked
past the silent police car
parked by the side of the park
we laughed and we
laughed and we laughed
and we laughed
