Lessons from Ye | Kanye West |

If you are afraid to be you, it’s over.

How many times you are in a meeting and you hear things you do not agree with, or you believe different and you say nothing? How many times have you observed something happening around you that is not right and you decided not to speak up?.

If you are like me, I would guess many.

Those many times we decide to do nothing are often because we are afraid to be ourselves, because if we speak up, conflict may emerge, perhaps we may be wrong, or maybe we are too self-conscious.

“If I’m afraid to be me, then it’s over. I’m not longer Ye”. Ye

We trust others’ opinions more than our own opinion. The madness of the crowds pushes us to believe and do as the crowd.

But why not share our ideas, opinions and feelings? — Not because they are better or always right but because they are our own and we have a responsibility to ourselves, to be honest.

We may overcome the fear of being ourselves by having a better relationship with failure, no doubt when we will speak out we may mess up things, hurt someone or make mistakes, but we have the capacity to learn, apologize and improve.

That’s the only way. If not, then we will always be the person others want us to be, instead of the person we want to be.

Don’t be afraid to be you. Don’t betray your future self.

Ye said “If I’m afraid to be me, then it’s over” during an interview with Jimmy Kimmel
