He Sold His Birthright Because of Hunger

Happy Sunday service.

Because of hunger, Esau sold his birthright to his younger brother, Jacob.

He exchanged his birthright with a pot of stew because he was dying and wanted to eat right away. Who wouldn’t?

Many Christians study this Bible story in Sunday school. According to the story, the boys’ mom, Rebecca, helped the younger son take over the family wealth from the first son.

First son.

In many African cultures, the first son is god, and everyone makes his life easier by doing anything and everything for him. In return, some of the first sons become the caretakers and free bank for everyone in their families.

In Christian culture, many mothers distaste their first child being a girl because they believe that is not the order of God — baby Jesus. I heard this for the first time at a Christian women’s conference and was shocked to hear it from a well-educated and brilliant woman. Therefore, I chose not to spend too much time in these women’s groups because judgment often replaced empathy.
