A few days ago, I listened to a talking point about retiring early, and that kept me thinking and reflecting on life.
As a young woman, I attended the funeral of my former boss and relatives who retired. Three of them retired and went home and died. They died between a year and five after retirement.
My parents-in-law retired and established their own business. They left their house a few days a week and went to work. They actively lived three decades after retirement.
Let’s do the math with people who retire and go home and rest and people who retire and go and enjoy work and hobby.
Retiring at any age can be a liberating choice. Work is not just about earning money or gaining a certificate. It’s about maintaining our sanity and preserving our dignity.
