Artist Statement

My work is all about process. It’s an awkward thing to explain to people, but it makes sense to me. The layers of bright and complementary colors are important, especially when the results are how I wanted them. I have grown out of doodling and sketching in my books to translating that method of mark-making into a sustainable and productive process. While I listen to music (mostly hip-hop) I intuitively draw with my brushes, making thick, even lines. The beat of the music ends up influencing my work; it gives it a rhythm or pattern.

I like to explore the division between graphic & bold vs. painterly & messy. Experimenting with materials and methods is essential to finding new ways of working more efficiently. I continue to play with my work, still trying to find out who I am as an artist. From this point, I want to expand and grow my process into a larger entity involving other mediums. I am constantly excited to see where I will end up in the future.
