The Most Wonderful and the Most Romantic Time of the Year
It’s that time of year again, everyone! The air is crisp and filled with love and everyone is desperately trying to find the perfect gift for all of the people they hold near and dear to their hearts. Maybe, just maybe, in this season of love, you’ll be able to spend the day with a special someone, and steal a kiss or two…NO, I’m not talking about Valentine’s Day, I’m talking about CHRISTMAS! You all might think that the most romantic time of the year is that time just around and on Valentine’s Day, but I’m going to have to disagree with you. Christmas just so happens to be both the most wonderful time of the year and the most romantic time of the year.
No Christmas/romance movie is complete without a spontaneous engagement and possible immediate wedding directly after the engagement; how romantic, right? Well, the same thing could happen to you this holiday season (sans exchanging your vows directly after your significant other popping the question). According to a study conducted by Brides 2018 American Weddings, the most popular month to ask them to say, “I do,” is December! The study recorded 14% of respondents having gotten engaged with chestnuts roasting and snowflakes falling. If getting engaged while making Christmas cookies doesn’t sound like the most romantic (and the sweetest) thing you’ve ever heard, I don’t know what will.
In addition to more couples agreeing to tie the knot during Christmas time, Netflix is also releasing more romantic films during Christmas time as well. I took a list of films that were released during Christmas time this year (that you can find here: https://www.thrillist.com/entertainment/nation/netflix-christmas-movies-2019-holiday-calendar) and I took a list of films that were released during and around Valentine’s Day this year (that you can find here: https://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2019/01/23/heres-whats-coming-to-netflix-in-february-2019-and-what-to-watch/#6e23a7602be7) and found that despite the fact that convenience stores are riddled with heart-shaped chocolate boxes and stuffed bears that say, “I love you,” on the chest, Netflix is releasing more romantic films during Christmas time. During Christmas, Netflix is releasing 13 films (I’ve seen a good couple of them and boy are they so bad that they’re good), I know that doesn’t sound like a lot, but compared to the three romantic movies that Netflix released during Valentine’s Day, 13 is nothing to sneeze at.
Lastly, Christmas time allows for so much romance and love in the air because of the design of the almost desperate idea of “cuffing season.” Cuffing season is what a lot of younger people like to call the colder months because who wants to be alone under a blanket when you can be cuddled up to your person? Cuffing season was also, in general, designed in order for those who didn’t have a partner prior to Christmas time to have a partner come Christmas time because Christmas time is the most romantic time of the year and everyone just wants someone special to spend it with. Speaking of spending time with someone special, Christmas time has an incredible familial love in the air as well; Christmas time is a time where family comes together to enjoy each other’s company. This is something that Valentine’s Day will probably never have, no matter how many tiny heart-shaped chocolate boxes your dad gives you every year.
So there you have it, Christmas is definitively the most romantic time of the year (and I honestly don’t care what you have to say, it just is, it’s pretty much been proven by everything I just said). So grab a hot cocoa, turn on Netflix, and binge all of those god awful Christmas/romance movies with whoever will sit through them with you because it’s the most wonderful time of the year and that means it’s time to spend time with the people that you love.
