“I do not recollect of ever seeing my mother by the light of day. She was with me in the night. She would lie down with me and get me to sleep, but long before I’d wake, she was gone.” Frederick Douglass wrote this of his childhood, his days of being a slave, torn from the sort of comforting figure many of us take for granted. But despite all odds, Douglass began a journey towards freedom, literacy, and leadership.

In this episode of The Peer Review, brought to you by Collyn, the podcast team discusses the life and writings of former slave, Frederick Douglass, and why they’re relevant to us in today’s society.
