We are pleased to update our community on our partnership with the University of Connecticut’s Senior Design Program. The Senior Design Program is a two-semester capstone required for all School of Engineering seniors to graduate from the University of Connecticut. With the aid of Dr. Phillip G. Bradford, faculty mentor for the Zap Senior Design Team, we have had the pleasure of mentoring a team of 5 engineering students for their iteration of the Senior Design Project. The goals of these initiatives are to teach students how to work in a collaborative team environment and gain a technical and conceptual understanding within a relevant industry.

The Zap Senior Design Students came into the initiative with the goal of gaining a comprehensive understanding of various components of blockchain technology, including topics such as smart contracts, oracles, DeFi, and Dapps. With an emphasis on Zap Protocol functionalities and capabilities, students used the hands-on experience to gain a comprehensive technical foundation in blockchain development. These include working with Zap Contracts, becoming proficient in the Solidity programming language, interacting with Web3 Javascript library, and exposure to other relevant tools and frameworks.

Along with familiarizing themselves with these important technical components, students also conducted in-depth research to gain a further understanding of the decentralized digital economy. This research gave students a further foundational understanding to realize the significance, implications, and current limitations of these technology stacks. The topics explored included pressing issues revolving around the “oracle problem,” such as exploring reputation systems, trusted execution environments, and the implications of decentralized oracles.

Moving forward, the Senior Design Team will be leveraging the technical and conceptual foundation gained last semester. With the aid and supervision of Dr.Philip G. Bradford, the Zap Senior Design Team will be focusing primarily on furthering technical exposure for the rest of the initiative thus, contributing to the development of the Zap ecosystem in anticipation of the Q1 Zap Protocol 2.0 release.

About Zap Protocol:

Zap Protocol is a bonding curve smart contract platform that gives unparalleled control to users and developers, allowing them to create pricing models that work best for the products or services they are providing. Each provider is given a custom generated widget which can be embedded directly on their website, meaning they can offer their products and services directly to their consumers. The use-cases for this decentralized protocol include monetization of data for smart contract use, bounties & competitions, DAO’s, tokenized physical assets, and decentralized futures markets.
