So you have finally have decided to take the plunge and start mining Zelcash. To begin mining Zelcash, you are going to need two things to start:

  1. ZelCore Multi-Asset Wallet zelcore.io
  2. A miner that supports Equihash (144,5)
ZelCore Multi-Asset Wallet on Mobile. Sleek!

Wallet Setup

First, you will need to make an account in the ZelCore Wallet (either desktop or mobile). Make sure to write down these login details somewhere secure. There is no way to recover your login details if you forget since they are not stored on a server. This means a server cannot get hacked to acquire your login details and the security is all on the user’s hands to maintain. Thus, make a secure username/password combo. I will also note, that soon the Zel team will be releasing their security protocol for users to implement, tentatively called “Zel ID.”

Once you sign in, head on over to the Zelcash icon and get your receiving address to use in your miner parameters field.

Miner Setup

The following will cover the set up required to mine Zelcash. Note that when mining Equihash(144,5) coins you will need a personalization string and are indicated below.

If you are running Nvidia GPU’s, you can run EWBF, Gminer, or lolminer (alpha) (links above). EWBF has the following benchmarks for GPU’s running on the Equihash(144,5) algorithm:

1050ti = 18 Sol/s
1060 = 30 Sol/s
1070 = 45 Sol/s
1080 = 50 Sol/s
1080ti = 75 Sol/s

The following is the format for batch files in EWBF (This will be different if you are using a dedicated MiningOS, i.e., HiveOS, SMOS, etc., in which case you should follow the prompts and type in the parameters as mandated by your MiningOS.)

miner --algo 144_5 --server us.voidr.net --port 2001 --user t1WegQp3zYgYpc3gj9uHrTHyUmyJCqCFMvs --pass x --pers ZelProof

Gminer has the following benchmarks for GPU’s running on the Equihash(144,5) algorithm:

1070ti = 59 Sol/s
1080 = 61 Sol/s
1080ti = 84-89 Sol/s

The following is the format for batch files in Gminer:

miner --algo 144_5 --pers ZelProof --server us.voidr.net --port 2001 --user t1WegQp3zYgYpc3gj9uHrTHyUmyJCqCFMvs --pass x

If you are running AMD GPU’s, you can run lolminer (link above). Lolminer has the following benchmarks for GPU’s running on the Equihash(144,5) algorithm:

RX580 = 28 Sol/s
Vega = 48 Sol/s
Nvidia 1080 = 55 Sol/s
Nvidia 2080 = 75 Sol/s

The following is the format for batch files (This will be different if you are using a dedicated MiningOS, i.e., HiveOS, SMOS, etc., in which case you should follow the prompts and type in the parameters as mandated by your MiningOS.):

lolMiner.exe --coin ZEL --pool us.voidr.net --port 2001
--user t1WegQp3zYgYpc3gj9uHrTHyUmyJCqCFMvs --pass x

Now you will need to choose a pool, and this all up to you. I actively emphasize not picking the highest nethash pool as that causes centralization rather than decentralization of nethash. See the current nethash distribution here miningpoolstats

Finally, I hope that this guide helps you out in your endeavors into the wonderful ecosystem that is Zel. Fill those bags and get to mining!
