You can love it, you can hate it, but you can’t ignore it! This can be an apt definition of social media for our generation. We will keep scrolling our social media profiles and keep complaining about how we don’t get time to do anything else! And though, the debate about the good and bad effects of social media will be ongoing for years to come, there’s one thing no one can deny that social media has interconnected the world like never before.

Recent studies suggest that about 30% of our mobile screen time is now on social media with people spending 145 minutes on average on their social media daily. And that’s not all. Apart from entertainment, people depend on social media for news and shopping too. 57% of traffic that comes to news websites goes from social media. A study by GlobalWebIndex suggests that 71% of people will buy products based on social media referrals and 54% of consumers research products on social media. Those are staggering numbers!

With such enormous influence of social media on our consumer behaviour, it is evident that businesses too would benefit from their interaction with consumers on social media. Every business, big or small, is present on social media competing for their audience’s attention.

Technology, even though, has not penetrated the Indian villages as we expected yet it’s expanding at a strong pace.
