Please find below our regular development status report, this one covering the period from Nov 11 to Nov 24, 2019. Within this timeframe, we were strongly focused on stabilizing the functionality developed during the recent and (partially) in the current sprint, implementing a feature allowing to launch and play web (HTML5) games on mobile devices, and introducing numerous other improvements.

HTML5 support for mobile devices

This week, we have added support for HTML5-based games on the platform (will go live in several hours from now). The browser game Lords of the Arena has become the first game you can try and have fun playing on your smartphone already. Other games (including Chain Warriors) will follow soon after some technical improvements are made.

Marketing tools

Deep Offer for CPA Networks” feature has been successfully implemented and is now available for The Abyss marketing specialists. With this powerful feature, now we can create CPA offers based on the in-game events and attract new users to the platform. In the near future, our partner developers will also get access to this functionality.

Desktop Client

We have also implemented the “Continued Download” functionality in the latest version of The Abyss Desktop Client. This useful feature allows to continue the downloading process from the point of interruption (for example if the Internet connection has been lost).

When starting a game from The Abyss Desktop Client the launcher now automatically jumps to the bottom tray menu, and is not displayed in the full-window mode. This feature is designed to reduce the workload on the system and enhances system performance by consuming fewer resources.

Other developments

Some other developments completed during the recent sprint include:

  • Developed a feature allowing to add demo/trial versions of games to the game pages on the platform. The feature will become visible as soon as the first demo version is added;
  • Made numerous improvements to the mobile version of the platform (scrolling up and down on mobile devices has become easier, and you can read game descriptions without clicking on the game icon). Also added a feature that reminds you of inviting your friends to join and play with you;
  • Work with game sessions has been successfully transferred to Websocket;
  • Since our project has grown bigger, its architecture has also expanded. We have made changes to our License Management System previously (license purchase through SKU), and also evolved our Build Distribution System making it more functional and flexible. The implementation of these changes was rather challenging, and there were a number of issues we had successfully addressed and overcome.

Short-term development plans

While we’re working on adding new features to the platform, our short-term development plans also include:

  • Further development of Publiс Profile feature;
  • Further development of Cloud Storage for The Abyss SDK (the feature stores games configurations and allows to recover the in-game progress when launching the game on various devices);
  • Started implementation of Friendlist feature.

Well, that’s it for today. We will keep you up to date with the development process twice per month, as previously. The next report is scheduled for Dec 9, 2019.

Stay tuned!

Best,

The Abyss Team
