You’re too slow, big agency

I’m extremely bullish on the small (<100 FTE’s) agency right now (disclaimer: I am the CEO of one of them). Actually, let me take that one provocative step further: most big agencies are not designed for today’s marketplace.

Here’s why:

Given the rate of change driven by shifts in technology and culture, agility is the new marketing superpower. Agility is a function of speed. The speed of any organization is predicated on how quickly decisions get made and executed. Big companies (and agencies) inherently have more bloat and more layers to make decisions thereby reducing their agility.

So, if agility is what’s needed now, why are big agencies (>100 FTE’s) still getting hired?
