Indulge in Palate Pleasing Confetti Snacks
Imagine if you increased your vegetable intake because it was your healthy snack to curb bad habits when you want something not as fulfilling that will leave you hungry a little while after consuming it. Singaporean entrepreneur Betty Lu, has found a way to convert massive food discarded into your new favorite snack, “Confetti Snacks.” Representing a new line of veggie chips that replaces an unhealthy deep fried snack but delivers nutrients, crunch, color and zestful options for all to enjoy.
When asked how the name and company “Confetti Snacks’’ came about? Lu related to me that the majority of the snacks are nutritionally bankrupt beige foods made with fried potatoes or extruded corn.
“We wanted to celebrate the colors of the plant kingdom and create nutrient dense snacks that were crafted with real sliced vegetables and fruit to celebrate the colors of the rainbow.”
While traveling the world, Lu was frustrated in her search for a robust, significant, but lightweight savory treat to propel her backpacking adventures. Lu too found the answer in her future creations in what others would refer to as the “ugly vegetables” that are considered unsellable due to coarse shape, size or other visual inconsistencies. Lu decided to meld some of these unconventional vegetables by slicing them up, and then transmuting them into one of the most nutrient-dense and crunchy, succulent snacks of a healthy foodie’s dreams.
Showing how important it was to embed her Singapore heritage into the brand Lu made sure to state that it was of the utmost importance.
“Singapore is a melting pot of cultures. Traveling the world was such a valuable experience, that the only way I can imagine paying tribute back to it is to share a piece of myself and where I came from. Growing up in Singapore with a melting pot of cultures with their own diverse culinary recipes, spices and flavors, was inspiring. Weaving that part of myself into Confetti’s brand meant celebrating good food, and also embracing inclusion and diversity which is critical in today’s climate. The world has so much to teach us and food is a social glue that can bind us all together regardless of language.”
Though many of today’s on the go snacks are filled with artificial flavors and processed chemicals, Confetti Snacks are minimally processed and never deep-fried. Since they are baked using a low heat method, the nutrients — and the beautiful colors of the carrots, radishes, purple sweet potatoes and mushrooms in the mix remain lively, attracting them to an array of new consumers. However it’s not just about delivering health dividends and looking good. Confetti Snacks are infused with authentic spices and flavors inspired by Lu’s native Singapore and international travels. The current line of veggie chip flavors include: Green Curry, Tandoori Curry, Teriyaki BBQ and Summer Truffle. Mushroom chip flavors include: Green Curry, Tandoori Curry and Black Truffle.
Powering with a mission that Lu wants to pass down to consumers when it comes to healthy snacking options provided by Confetti Snacks is quite simple.
“Those colors can taste beautiful and have so much more nutrients than potato chips. Why settle for junk snacks when colorful veggies taste better and have so much more vitamins? We should embrace the colors of the rainbow, and in the meantime feel good about consuming snacks that have an impact on the environment. We use imperfect produce and surpluses in the production of our snacks. Business should always be used as a force for good to elevate food to its highest purpose and leave maximum impact on our planet and people.”
