Teaching yourself a new skill is hard, but not impossible. Below is a summary of all the free resources our team has come to love in 2019 that will inject less stress and more success into your self-learning journey.

Tools

The Bit is an online platform that matches self-taught learners together to complete online courses.

Communities

Coder Coder provides tutorials and resources geared towards self-taught web developers.

Code Newbie a supportive community of programmers and people learning how to code.

WomenMake, chat with other women entrepreneurs and help each other out.

IndieHackers is a website and community focusing on helping entrepreneurs become profitable while remaining independent. Not programming focused, but this is one of the most active and supportive communities I’ve joined this year.

Events

Coffee and Coded was founded in 2018 as an educational event series for women interested in learning to code. We host monthly events in NYC to help our attendees build skills and community.

Interviewing

CodePath — an 8-week course covering all the most frequently asked interview questions from data structures to system design

InterviewCake — a guide that explains the most common patterns found in algorithmic thinking

LeetCode — endless practice problems

Grokking the System Design Interview — explanations of the tradeoffs involved in common system design questions, such as how to design Instagram
