Eventum Alpha: Emotion Recognition Meets Blockchain

Eventum, a decentralized blockchain-based platform, will be hosting the 10th installment of its live event series featuring the application of artificial intelligence (AI) and supervised machine learning (ML). This event will be centered around facial image recognition and the utilization of “wisdom of the crowd” logic to help train a ML algorithm detect a multitude of emotions.

Problem
Currently, artificial intelligence and machine learning programs require thousands or even millions of human-driven inputs to train algorithms before they can even get to the stage of functioning autonomously. Given the variations in input size, scale and data quality there are three inherent problems:
- Speed — Collecting thousands or potentially millions of inputs can be a manual process which requires a lot of time. Ideally, algorithms need to be trained “as quickly as possible” in order to be operationally efficient and useful.
- Scale — AI and ML currently do not have the capacity to perform unquantifiable “complex” tasks. An example of this is emotion recognition (sentiment analysis) where feelings and opinions are not as easy to classify as object recognition.
- Timeliness — AI and ML are limited in their ability to produce real-time feedback. This makes these programs rather static as they can’t quite adapt to new data and self-correct in time to perform a desired task.
Solution
Eventum is laying the groundwork for upgrading the performance of supervised machine learning. Their platform utilizes “wisdom of the crowd” logic to collect and process thousands of human-driven inputs to help developers build applications for a wide range of use cases which include content moderation, real-time stat-keeping, and fake news identification.
For this particular use case, Eventum’s live demo focuses on deciphering facial expressions to help train a test ML algorithm to detect a range of human emotions. Specifically, the live event participants will be asked to analyze a set of images and provide their input on how a person in each image may be feeling. Participants whose inputs end up contributing to the consensus, which is confirmed by a set of validation nodes that check everything is aligned with the consensus rules, will be rewarded EVT. Ultimately, this demonstration will provide a glimpse into Eventum’s ability to rapidly collect granular insights that will eventually feed a real algorithm enough material to update and self-correct any task in real-time.

Just the year before, AI and ML were worth almost half that at $1.4B and estimates for 2020 suggest that the market size will quadruple to $10.5B. By 2025 these figures will potentially top $60B!
