Kumbh will see Allahabad’s population swelling to twice as that of Delhi-NCR’s ( 50 million approx).

Brief:

  • Maha Kumbh Mela will start on 25th January, 2019. It takes once in 12 years.
  • Nearly 12 crore visitors will attend the mela. Delhi-NCR’s population is 5 crores approx.
  • 80,000 people are working for a year.
  • It is spread over 3200 hectares or 7500 football fields.

How much business does it create?

  • Report says that Government has spent INR 10,000 crores.
  • The city also got a new airport at the cost of INR 1600 crores.
  • The rest is on sanitation, transportation, information and communication, accommodation, food, security and entertainment.

What should be the takeaway?
Cities are the operating system for economic activities. It proves that our officials are capable of building a city for 12 crore people, and manage it for 30 days. We can use the learnings to make our region better in terms of traffic, sanitation and security.
