E-commerce and international supply chains makes it possible to attract International customers. Global business can safeguard businesses from the future domestic losses.

Eric Broussard, Vice President, international marketplaces and retail, Amazon said in an interview to Business Standard, “You could have a customer in New York City, Berlin, Tokyo, Dubai (to buy) bedsheets from a seller in Delhi or Mumbai through Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk or Amazon.co.jp. They can get the product delivered to their address in one to two days, pay in local currency; while the seller in India gets the money in Indian rupees in their bank account,” said Broussard.

Amazon India allows Indian businesses to list their products on 17 international marketplaces or websites of Amazon. They can get access to 150 million paid Prime members and over 300 million customers in 200 countries. Pandemic has created more opportunities for the independent e-commerce businesses. Brands such as Vadham Tea , Wow Shampoo, Wonder Care and Jack In The Box (Toys for kids) have succeeded with Amazon’s global reach.

Amazon guarantees reach, sales and distribution, but it also competes with the businesses it supports. Amazon copied Peak Design’s sling bags, and sold cheaper on its platform. It had also copied All Birds shoes. Thousands of small businesses are gravitating towards Shopify to avoid Amazon.
