After the pandemic gets over, small businesses should adopt community shopping. It will help in attracting customers and increasing sales. Japanese practice ‘machizemi’ to fight with the big businesses and online. Many small businesses in Nainital have closed down.

Since local shop owners and artisans have more expertise than the big chain and online brands, Japanese businesses decided to outreach their competitors. They organised sessions to share their skills with the customers. The sessions helped in upgrading buyers with new skills, increasing sales, and reviving towns and neighbourhoods.

As per Nippon: Some specialty courses offered in machizemi events around the country include one on knife sharpening in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka Prefecture; one in Kurume, Fukuoka Prefecture, a clinic for weight loss through pelvic-stretching exercises; and a workshop on delicious dashi broth making, taught by a chef in Funabashi, Chiba Prefecture. Local customers have been won over by professionals sharing their hard-won skills.

Self employed and micro businesses have born the maximum impact of Covid-19 and economic slowdown. Community shopping initiatives will benefit them the most. Businesses of Shahpurjat had organised a similar festival in 2013–2015. Then it stopped.
