Telecom companies are copying FMCG companies. They are selling mobile data as FMCG brands sold INR 1 shampoo sachets.

What did FMCG companies do?

. Kavincare started the trend in 1983.
. Trend is to make products more affordable. FMCG distribution changed in India forever.
. QSR brands sold INR 30 pizza and INR 25 burger. Personal care brands sold face cream for INR 1.

What are the mobile data plans equivalent of FMCG’s sachets?

  • Jio recently launched a INR 148 for a month plan.
  • Airtel: INR 198/ month
  • Vodafone: INR 198/ Month
    All plans have unlimited voice and 1.4gb data per day.

Why is data not oil or shampoo?

  • After all the more data we create, the more companies will use it. FB patented a framework to find out socio economic background of users.
