Restaurant industry is finding it hard to recover from the effects of pandemic

Deepinder Goyal, CEO of Zomato tweeted that food delivery is recovering, but dine in restaurants are not. 40% of Indian restaurants may never reopen. Zomato surveyed 15000 restaurants.

First good news. Food delivery restaurants have recovered 70% of their pre COVID business. 5 out of 100 food delivery restaurants were dining out restaurants. 20% of big city customers moved to smaller towns and cities. They are ordering food again. After they had place the first order, frequency of ordering increased.

Second, bad news. Dining out restaurants have not even recovered 10% of their pre COVID business. 29% of restaurants have opened in Kolkata, 21% in Hyderabad, 19% in Bengaluru, 12% in Delhi-NCR and only 9% in Chennai. Only 43% of the remaining shut restaurants plan to reopen.
