Japan’s biggest fashion retailer is coming to Delhi-NCR
Japanese retailers love Delhi NCR. First Moji, now Uniqlo is coming to the town.

Uniqlo announced India’s entry. It will set up its first store in Delhi in 2019.
A brief history:
- Uniqlo started in 1984. It sells casual clothes.
- Zara and H&M are its competitors, who sell trendy clothing and jewelry.
- It has 1089 stores worldwide.
- It made a profit of $1.57 bn on sales of $16.87 bn.
- Fast Retailing Co. is its holding company. Its other brands are GU, Theory, Comptoir des Cotonniers, Princesse tam.tam, and J Brand
- It aims to become world’s largest fashion retailer.
What does it mean?
- High demand for fast fashion; India’s fashion retail market is worth $70 bn .
- Muji, another Japanese retail major has opened four stores in India ( 2 in Delhi-NCR).
- Positive signs for local garment manufacturers; as these brands will source from local manufacturers.
- Intense competition between fashion brands to get customers.
