Do you know ‘work from home’ and ‘ Zoom meetings’ aren’t trends? Trends are voluntary shift in the behaviour of the people. Video calls make people lonely, anxious and disconnected.

Media analyst and author Thomas Baedkal writes: Trends generally move things in a positive direction. In other words, it takes you from a place where you don’t really want to be, to a new world that is better. But that’s not what we are seeing here with Zoom. People are not Zooming because this is something they would rather do. They are Zooming because they have to, but they would rather be outside with their friends or be with their coworkers at the office.

Some accelerating trends are subscription products, online shopping, digital retail, meal kit restaurants, digital payments. Some decelerating trends are decline of online advertising, physical events, physical stores, real estate, luxury and home cooking.

The crisis isn’t giving birth to new trends. It’s the on-going trends, which are playing out. So, things will be different, but with the trends, which existed before the crisis. Entrepreneurs should focus to prepare and to build their businesses as before.
