Due to import restrictions in the USA, an underground market for Pakistani mangoes has come up. India produces 50% of world’s mangoes followed by China, Thailand, Mexico, Indonesia and Pakisan.

A business named Aams Dealer sells Pakistani mangoes. He takes order on Whatsapp. The customers have to pick up the mangoes from the nearest airports. Earlier it had cost three times than what it costs today. Aams dealer offers five varieties; Chausa, Langda, Anwar Ratol, Dasheri and Sindhri.

He writes: When Pakistani mangoes first made their US debut in 2011 they were selling for $80 per box. It was not that Pakistani mango farmers were charging hefty sums or that retailers were making huge margins, the truth is that the prices were high because of the cost of logistics. The mangoes were flown into USA and then transported to an irradiation facility in Iowa from there they were distributed to suppliers who then sold them to Pakistani grocery stores.

Journalist Ahmed Ali Akbar reported Aams Dealer to America’s Test Kitchen. He also tweeted the current year’s rates and an alternative source. Each box of 2kilograms costs $33, which is INR 1200/kg.
