Posting on social media platform such as Facebook is a waste of time and effort. Organic updates reach only a fraction of people, a business should reach. A paid campaign worth INR 500, on social media will deliver more than hours of free updates.

Reaching out to the maximum prospective customers is important for the efficient marketing. At the same time the outreach should have minimal frequency. Businesses should avoid talking to the same people all the time. Instead, they should focus on reaching a bigger audience some of the time. Paid media helps in reaching out the right audience at the right time.

Marketer Jerry Darkin writes, “You’re engaging in a battle to reach an extra couple % of your audience when the meaningful reach you need is 10,000% of them. Brands grow by reaching new light buyers.”

Small businesses should only make content, if they plan to promote it. There are two ways to target customers. One, identify a specific set of customers you can directly engage with, and promote. Two, to ‘build’ a profile, promote some posts at scale. Do not promote more than 1 or 2 content pieces on social media platform per week. Remember reach and frequency.
