Direct to customer (D2C) brands may get their exclusive marketplaces. Pandemic has accelerated the growth of e-commerce and D2C brands. E-commerce had generated sales in 2020, which was predicted for 2022.

Amazon is the market leader. It sells everything from the needle to the plane. D2C brands also retail on marketplaces of legacy brands such as Walmart and Macy’s. New marketplaces such as Verishop are new options. Yet, there aren’t dedicated marketplaces for single product categories such as beauty. Food delivery have their dedicated marketplaces such as Swiggy, Doordash, Zomato.

As per Modern Retail: By focusing on a specific vertical, these new marketplaces can also carve out a niche against the traditional brick-and-mortar retailers that are now starting to build their own marketplaces, like Walmart, who like Amazon is trying to build as large of an offering online as possible.

Vertical market places can help indie and D2C brands with better discovery. They can also help them compete against the brick and mortar brands, which are building their own marketplaces. Shopify may also launch a marketplace.
