Taiwanese electronics maker HTC unveiled its new Exodus 1s blockchain phone this Saturday with the ability to launch a full Bitcoin node. The company claims that this is the first smartphone with that capabilities.

Full nodes are the most important element of the stability of the Bitcoin network. We lowered the barrier so that anyone can run a full node, said a company representative.

Initially, the device will be available to buy in Europe, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Taiwan. Its price is €219 (around $250), which corresponds to a third of the cost of the original Exodus 1.

When starting a full Bitcoin node, it is recommended to connect to a WiFi network and a power source. To store the Bitcoin transaction history, users are given the opportunity to expand the device’s memory with an SD card by 400+ GB. Currently, the size of the complete Bitcoin transaction registry is about 250 GB.

The smartphone is also equipped with a hardware wallet for storing cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, Litecoin and Binance Coin.

Despite the statements of skeptics who doubted the success of a specific “cryptophone” on the market, HTC claims that sales of the first version of the device met the company’s expectations, which, however, does not mean a stunning success. The manufacturer refused to disclose specific indicators.
