Stupid Recent Events in Crypto

As in any community, we have our fair share of drama in the crypto world, maybe more so than most actually (if you’re on Twitter you know what I mean), so we at Bybit would like to present a few tidbits of dumb, stupid or unbelievable news from the crypto space for your enjoyment.

Baltimore Under Cyber Siege

First up is the recent hack of the city of Baltimore by the mysterious person or persons acting under the moniker “Robinhood”, which is the same name as the ransomware. These nefarious hackers have are holding Baltimore hostage after having broken into all of the cities computer systems, encrypted their files, and asked for a ransom that will increase every 10 days until the hackers eventually delete all of the cities files. Most notably, all property sales in the city have been put on hold as the Mayor’s Office can no longer access or file property records. Baltimore has vowed not to give in, so the future of the city’s computer system and data records remains uncertain.

The Facebook Coin, lol

Zuckerberg infamously announced that Facebook would release its own stablecoin, known as Project Libra, though since the announcement this project has remained under wraps. The project will include not just the coin itself, but an entire payment record on Facebook and online that will also reward users with the coin for viewing ads and content on Facebook. This decision has left many in the crypto community scratching their heads as they attempt to figure out who will actually purchase and use this coin, with many decrying Zuckerberg for simply being greedy. In all likelihood, the majority of this coin will end up stuck in wallets on our grandparents Facebook pages as they will have no idea how to use it.

More Fun with TRON

News broke recently that TRON CTO, Lucien Chen, has quit after he wrote a brief on how TRON has strayed from its ways and is no longer the company it set out to be. As it turns out, Chen was actually fired this past January for “Suspicion of misappropriation of funds, bribery, competitive infringement, and theft of trade secrets and intellectual property.” Justin Sun himself confirmed this publicly lending credence to the fact that Chen may actually have been engagin in such unscrupulous activities. Though this all begs the bigger questions of whether or not TRON is hiding important goings-on from investors and clients. This is just the latest in the TRON saga, coming on the heels of how Justin somehow single-handedly saved the crypto markets….

DJ KHALEEEED! And Floyd Mayweather Off the Hook for ICO Fraud

DJ Khaled and Floyd May weather had all charges against them for fraud dropped by US Federal courts on the fifth after their lawyers made a successful case for a motion to dismiss. They were found by the court not to have been guilty of solicitation as there was no direct evidence that the two successfully created a market for the plaintiffs to buy their shitcoin. However, the founders of Centra Tech ICO are still in hot water as it has been found they created fake personas with outstanding credentials with which to stack their employee base, and are still facing one count of an undisclosed crime against them, this likely being some sort of fraud.

Never a Dull Day

The title speaks for itself; crypto is filled with all sorts of shenanigans and it makes for hysterical news. The ongoing TRON fiasco is some of my personal favorites to read about because it doesn’t seem like it’s backed by anything other than Justin Sun’s personality.
