Hope

What the NFL drafts to every fan, just a little hope.

It is that time of year again. No, I am not talking about the beautiful Springtime in Texas. I am also not talking about school drawing to an end. I am talking about that special time that brings hope to many over a selection of a few 224 people. 224 people used to be an average size to a Maintenance Company in the Army.

So as of last night, the NFL draft kicked off. All the hopes and promises of a promising future coupled with Super Bowl ambitions from 32 NFL franchises and their fan bases. It is this one moment before the first selection that all are on the equal plane.

Then the first selection came off the board last night along with 31 other players in the first round. Each hoping to bring glory to their teams. Each fan base hoping this is the golden draft that brings the Lombardi trophy in. There is a lot of optimism in the draft.

Something that is forgotten about, is the preparation just to get there. You know the journey. Because if the journey was not difficult then is draft glory worth it?

The coaching staff and scouts have developed special ways to evaluate the prospects all the way down to how this person will affect the community. The potential draftees have put in years of hard work, dedication and complete focus just to get to this point. All hoping to hear their name called off. These potential draftees have had family members, coaches, community leaders, tutors, teachers, preachers, trainers, peers, friends, and countless other people not named all pushing, mentoring, guiding, and helping just to get to this point.

So, what does this draft weekend mean? That is a good question. It is a rare time. It is prior to any major injuries. The draft is also prior to any attitudes or people not meshing on the team. It is the one point in the year where everything about your favorite team is completely optimistic and each team, fan base actually thinks their team will go to the Super Bowl because of their wise ability to assess talent and draft accordingly. There will be grades given out for the draft this weekend and they will be proven wrong. Mainly because you cannot grade a draft until February, which is Super Bowl time.

So, I think I will sit back, not get sucked into all the hype because I know it is false. Am I a guy that would say, because of this draft, my team, the Dallas Cowboys are now going to the Super Bowl?? Uh, you know me better than that. Heck yeah, I am. So, let’s go Cowboys and continue on getting our team together to win it all.

This is my Friday’s Thought to Ponder for the Weekend.
