Mrs. Kravitz

Maybe worrying about one's own district or state instead of one you have no say in, would be beneficial to all.

We are faced with a world of Mrs. Kravitz at every corner. You know Mrs. Kravitz, the lady that would look through the windows at every chance in the TV series called “Bewitched.” She would peer through the windows, see a few things in her stealthy observations and then let her imagination and emotions run wild. I would venture to say, that Mrs. Kravitz was not good at “minding her own business.”

Well today we live in a time where we are told everyone has a voice. Everyone’s opinion must be heard. You know the saying, “opinions are like a@#holes, everyone has one.” What is ironic it that our whole page is an opinion piece. I believe everyone does have their own opinion and there is nothing wrong with that. It is how they either keep it in, voice it or go overboard with it that distinguishes people.

So, we have a conflict with an opinion and the saying minding your business. There is a difference. The time I was in the military we were very focused on our specialty and our mission. We were often told when it comes to discussing things in a venue or in public, to stick to your expertise and don’t venture outside of it. Once you do venture outside of your expertise, then you are not speaking intelligently. That was a polite way of saying mind your business. We often see politicians who speak publicly tend to miss this memo.

Now I am one that does believe having conversations with people of different points of view can be beneficial. Each may learn from each other, and one may even change their mind after hearing where other people come from. This happened on last weeks podcast regarding “military base renaming.” Both the Coach and I were set against the renaming and after listening to our guests, their reasoning sounded good it convinced us both that maybe it is time.

There are many topics in America today that we all have an opinion on. I will give some examples. In Michigan the Governor wants to fix the roads, I have an opinion on that, but I also don’t have a dog in the fight because I live in Texas. I don’t vote in Michigan. Just the same Texas issues, unless regarding the border, are not problems of the other 49 states. What is being taught in my son’s school, I have an opinion on that, as well as that is my business. What is being taught in a school in another state, I have an opinion on it but is it any of my business? Meaning do I need to lose sleep over it, get in a car and travel across the country to complain about it? I would say no. Today we have too many people that hear an issue and have an opinion but think because they have an opinion that it justifies it being their business.

There is a difference between the two and maybe it is time as citizens for us to recognize that having an opinion doesn’t qualify it being your business. Maybe focusing on our own problems and not everyone else’s would do us some good. Accepting things in other places as they are and not how you think they should be from your opinion is, ok. There may be a good reason why things are done differently. I think America Deserves a little Better from its citizens instead of jumping in with full emotions. Maybe America would be better served if citizens would focus more on what pertains to them, instead of trying to outdo Mrs. Kravitz on a daily basis. I also think America would run a lot more smoothly once we realize not everything is our business.
