Smoke and Mirrors

Over the last year we have witnessed public officials along with their media colleagues tossing blame around on who was responsible for the COVID crisis. Because you know the deal, when your back yard is filthy the first thing you do as a politician is simply point out everyone else’s back yard, it is called diversion, I call it smoke and mirrors. There has been tons of airtime and energy that is been in the blame game instead of spending that energy towards getting results or maybe a timely, and I say that word timely on purpose, COVID bill.

You know what was said. Just look at the Democratic National Convention when the Democratic Party brought in Kristin Urquiza who said, “My dad was a healthy 65-year-old. His only preexisting condition was trusting Donald Trump-and for that he paid with his life.” Former President Obama gave the number of how many had died from COVID and along with the job losses which he blamed Trump for both. Of course, Nancy has her share in this as well, so many accusations I just stuck to a simple one for the sake of not writing a novel on this. “The President’s denial at the beginning was deadly…his delay in getting equipment to where it’s needed is deadly… As the President fiddles around, people are dying.” Leave it to Nancy to push that fearmongering.

Then we have the so-called super star of the Democratic Party. You know the guy. As I heard some ladies say, “oh and he’s single,’ as the media oooed and awed all over him. Look at him, he talks in front of a camera, like that was the only qualification for being good. Yep, he did talk in front of a camera and because of his party relationship, he did not have to walk into a briefing room having to wear a flak vest like the other party has to. Most of the media saying secretly, you know we must treat him right because he is one of our own. Even his brother works on one of our networks. Maybe we should make him, uh you know, the Presidential Candidate because we do not like a damn one of those 26 in our party. Where are we now, I laugh at that. So, Governor Cuomo, who was bestowed on the world from God himself according to some, even eloquently threw his spears as well, “I hold Donald Trump responsible for every death in New York state from COVID, because Trump lied.”

Now I will say, I have nothing negative at all to say regarding Kristin Urquiza herself, she is grieving. My heart goes out to her and her family. I have a problem that she was used as a pawn for political fodder. Do remember what I said earlier, when your backyard is filthy what do you do if you are a politician you point out everyone else’s backyard. Oh, the irony in that.

One thing that I have always been set on, is lets always see the facts before we rush to judgement on people. We all deserved that. Since mid-summer there had been reports that good ole Governor Cuomo was not the scrubbed Angel that he has been portrayed to be.

In all reality we got hit with a new virus that is only a year old. President Trump in less than a year orchestrated two vaccines and had 1.4 million people a day get the vaccine before he left office. That is facts not feelings and truthfully cannot really be disputed. Many people using the emotional step in the decision-making process, flat out blamed President Trump. For those that do not know there is not an emotional step in the decision-making process unless you make decisions off feelings. Now this is not about defending Trump it is more to expose the hypocrisy. When all along, the one true person that in any factual way could be blamed was one that was casting stones. This one person is the only elected official that I can honestly say his decisions led to people dying. That is Governor Cuomo.

This is the guy who put out a memo on March 25 th, demanding that COVID patients be moved to nursing homes where our most vulnerable were at, the elderly. Basically, giving the people in the nursing homes their death sentence. Now let us be fair, did he know the complete effects of the disease and who was the most vulnerable. I would say I think not but his decision did lead to people dying. That is known as being true. Do I think he is necessarily a bad guy? No, I don’t. I just think he made bad decisions which in turn had detrimental consequences. Cuomo sent them to nursing homes while hardly utilizing the USNS Comfort that was docked in Manhattan. Of all elected officials that can be directly tied to their decisions causing people to die during COVID, I present you the only one which is Governor Cuomo. It is a shame that this is true, but elected officials are there to protect their constituents, in New York this did not happen. That is not fearmongering that we saw from so many news agencies and politicians in order to garner political advantage. You see in a time when we have a pandemic, both news agencies and politicians did their little smoke and mirrors to ensure we did not view the incompetence right before our eyes. New Yorkers lost loved ones over this.

I do believe New Yorkers deserve way better than this. I also believe that as a nation we deserve a lot more transparency from our politicians and media. Maybe we simply deserve politicians that understand during a pandemic is the time to focus on saving lives not making political statements. The same could be said of the media. A lot more honesty from our elected officials and a lot less strategizing or political maneuvering is needed. I simply ask Doesn’t America Deserve Better?
