My Friday’s Thought to Ponder for the Weekend-The Best Teacher, Mother Nature

Today I sit outside for a moment with my Number One Grandchild, the first Grandchild. She is a blast to be around. Always full of energy and one who loves the outdoors.

A few days ago, we were out by the pool, and the Number One was busy relocating caterpillars and also capturing lizards. Not sure what either one thinks of that? Maybe they think it is the hand of God, reaching down from heaven. Perhaps they think they are about to be eaten. Either way, I have to do some serious convincing with her that they need to go back to their family. So far, she buys into my messaging on that. She has been good at capturing and releasing.

We walked through the garden, and we had our first small strawberry that was ripe. Of course, the honors of the first pick always go to the Grandchildren. So, she picked her first strawberry. My chest swelled with pride as she picked it.

There will be plenty of strawberries, tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, and onions from our garden to harvest this year. I am sure we will take advantage of her on those days of picking and digging.

One thing I love is my Number One’s fascination with the outdoors. To her, everything is an adventure. It can be something like finding a frog, lizard, or caterpillar. It could also be something simple as finding different rocks. She can just walk by and smell the flowers. A smile will come over her face as the petals tickle her nose and the scent makes its way for her to smell. Every single little thing is fun to her, as long as it is outside.

To come to think of that, maybe that is the recipe for success. Instead of trying to get four-year-old’s tablets, get their outdoor shoes on and get them outside with good ole Mother Nature. Mother Nature has done an excellent job of nurturing everything else. Why not take advantage of her expertise and let her nurture our most prized possessions? That would be our children and grandchildren. I do not think anyone would try to argue that too Mother Nature would be bad for a child. Quite the opposite, I think there is a consensus that you simply cannot get enough of ole Mother Nature.

Let Mother Nature do the hard work for us, establish that foundation of the outdoors, and you will probably plant the seeds of growing a good person by doing that.

This is my Friday’s thought to ponder for the weekend.
