Donald Glover is an American institution. After playing the best character on Community, launching a successful hip-hop career as Childish Gambino, and most recently writing, producing, and starring in one of fall’s best new shows Atlanta, he’s ready to ascend into true movie star status.

That’s right, fulfilling a dream his Community character Troy would kill for, Glover will play a young Lando Calrissian in the upcoming Star Wars Han Solo movie. How did this young prodigy achieve success spanning so many mediums?

Glover’s career began as a writer on Tiny Fey’s 30 Rock, part of the team that won a Writers Guild of America Award for Best Comedy Series in 2009. He started touring as a standup act and joined a sketch comedy group called Derrick Comedy that produced a mildly successful film, Mystery Team. That same year, he grabbed his biggest break yet, a role on a new show called Community, where he played reformed-jock-but-total-nerd Troy Barnes. His physical comedy and line-readings were the sharpest of any character on the show.

Around that time he also started writing and producing mixtapes using his hip-hop moniker, Childish Gambino. He continued performing standup and gained notoriety for a Comedy Central Special in 2010. His fans created a movement to have him cast as Spider-Man in the 2012 Amazing Spider-Man series. Though Andrew Garfield scored the role, Glover ultimately fulfilled his destiny, voicing the Miles Morales incarnation of Spider-Man on the animated Ultimate Spider-Man series. He later would be cast in a yet-to-be-announced role in the latest reboot of the Spider-Man series, Spider-Man: Homecoming.

After leaving Community to focus on Childish Gambino, he finally returned to TV this year with Atlanta, a show he created, wrote, produced, and starred in. And now with a co-starring role in a franchise blockbuster, it seems Glover’s rise can only continue.
