Here at The Comic Jam we are always pushing ourselves to improve our skills and this week’s theme was a challenge indeed. Our illustrious leader, Casey, picked three random words and gave them to the writers to craft a compelling story…and they nailed it!

Irrational Bones
Three things:
A mall, cigarette, fear

Story by Luke W. Henderson | Art by Aaron Brown | Letters by Kevin D. Lintz

The Basement of my Discontent
Three things: A sword, delirium, sand

Story by Jonathan Chiotis | Art and Letters by Jack Van Thomme

The Wolf
Three things
: Wolf, broken watch, spy craft

Story by Tyler Tarlton | Art by Rachel Henry | Letters by Kevin D. Lintz

Three Notes
Three things
: Guitar, flames, motorcycle

Story by Christian De Matteo | Art and Letters by John Jack

Luke W. Henderson (They/Them) is a writer of comics, prose, and poetry. Their work has been published in multiple anthologies and zines including Corrupting the Youth, Sage Cigarettes, and The Dark Side of Purity Vol. 3 (Bands of Bards) with upcoming works in Project Big Hype Vol. 3 and Comics from the Kitchen (Foreign Press Comics).

Aaron Brown is fully operational and all of his circuits are functioning perfectly. Living in Massachusetts he is the creator of #IOTCOMIC and the fortune telling comic Casbah The Rock. Caricaturist and solid band name inventor. Find his work at https://www.frogking.art/

Kevin D. Lintz is a comic book letterer, writer, and editor. He learned his skills in a Comics Experience class and honed them on the mean streets of his all-ages comic book, Team SLUG. He startles his family by making sound effect noises out loud to try and translate them into written words. He has even watched “Helvetica”, the full-length feature movie about the font Helvetica. https://lintzlettering.com/

Jonathan Chiotis is a writer of short stories and poems. He authored St. Anthony’s Fire in 2007 but since then has followed his passion for creating comic books. Doing the art, writing, and lettering for several mini comics with inept ability. Currently working on character creation with a focus on ultraviolent action, cinematic dialog, and the supernatural. He attended two semesters of art school, evidence which is undetectable in any of his works.

Jack Van Thomme illustrates comics and pitches in when he can. You can see the things he likes to draw and read the things he likes to talk about on Twitter and Instagram @Real_JackVT https://www.instagram.com/real_jackvt/

Tyler Tarlton is a writer of comics, novels, and screenplays from Oklahoma. He has two middle grade novels currently available as ebooks at Barnes & Noble. https://www.barnesandnoble.com/s/tyler%20tarlton

Rachel (she/her) is a California based artist with a quirky style, as she has been told. She likes cartoons, cute things, and spooky/creepy things. Puns, dark humor, and aged references are perfecto. See her work at https://www.instagram.com/rachelghenry/.

Christian De Matteo is a writer and college professor, founder of Tellworthy.com and co-founder of FugitivePoems.com with artist-extraordinaire James Lines. He loves all forms of art and entertainment, enjoys long walks on the beach and other less sandy locations, and is fatally allergic to fluffy cats (in case you wanted to get rid of him). He can be found pontificating/dad-joking on Twitter: @CDMetc and @FugitivePoems. He cannot draw. Like at all.

John Jack is a Seattle based comic writer and artist. Find his work on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/johnjackmakescomics/
