Quotes are like little gems you occasionally find among the endless sea of wisdom and literature. Finding one crisp idea packed into one or two lines can make reading a 300-page book all worthwhile. One resonating quote can have the potential to turn someone’s life around entirely. Here are some of the precious gems that I have accumulated over the years:
- “A man who dares to waste one hour of time has not discovered the value of life.”- Charles Darwin
- “Believe me, it is the sign of a great man, and one who is above human error, not to allow his time to be frittered away: he has the longest possible life simply because whatever time was available he devoted entirely to himself. None of it lay fallow and neglected, none of it under another’s control; for being an extremely thrifty guardian of his time he never found anything for which it was worth exchanging.”- Seneca, On the Shortness of Life
- “Nothing is so good a protection against such misery as inward wealth, the wealth of the mind, because the greater it grows, the less room it leaves for boredom.”- Arthur Schopenhauer, The Wisdom of Life
- We shall leave this world as foolish and as wicked as we found it on our arrival.”- Voltaire
- “Do not then consider life a thing of any value. For look to the immensity of time behind you and to the time that is ahead of you, another boundless space. In this infinity, then, what is the difference between him who lives three days and him who lives three generations?” Marcus Aurelius, Meditations
- “Lost time is never found again.” -Benjamin Franklin
- “You are living as if destined to live for ever; your own frailty never occurs to you; you don’t notice how much time has already passed, but squander it as though you had a full and overflowing supply- though all the while that very day which you are devoting to somebody or something may be your last.”- Seneca, On the Shortness of Life
And of course, we can’t forget about Calvin and Hobbes:
