Thanks to capitalism, we’ve found a way to optimize anything. Everything, even. Bryan Johnson has become the online face of “reverse-aging”, but not in the ways we’re used to.

TikTok is full of 20-somethings selling us on preventative botox, retinol and other treatments to look as young as possible for as long as possible. However, these are all focused on aesthetics. Bryan’s mission is far more involved than that. He wants to reverse his biological clock, to elongate his life.

His mission, referred to as “The Blueprint” works to reduce his body’s biological age as far as possible. However, is he healthy? While much of the online “anti-aging” space focuses on appearances, he focuses on more granular aspects of the anti-aging process. But, he doesn’t look healthy.

It’s hard to talk about appearance online, without it being seen as a metric of attractiveness. But, our appearance communicates so much more than this. We all have visual cues that we assess on a person, that communicate much more than beauty.

And, so many people in the health optimization spaces don’t “look” healthy.
