A perfect partner for a creative entrepreneur

Today is Day 7 with my new iPad Pro and it’s been amazing. It has a definite potential to replace my laptop. But in some cases, I need my laptop and in some cases, they work together in an amazing pair.

I am a digital designer, entrepreneur, and reader specifically -

And here are a few of the things, that I have been doing on my iPad for the last 6 days

  1. Writing Notes (I love apple notes, haven’t thought of notability yet. I turn to Keep Notes just because of this ecosystem and nothing else)
  2. Also, handwriting notes using the same apps — I love using Apple Pencil
  3. Reading Books (I download these pirated ebooks from libgen — not cool — and read it on my Books App. I do end up buying hard copies of these books and their audiobooks on audible as well :D)
  4. Chatting with Team and Clients (WhatsApp, Slack, MS Teams, and Telegram so far)
  5. Spending time on social media — Native Social media apps totally ZUCKS for iPad. Come on Facebook, take a look at your own shitty app and let the Instagram teamwork on a tablet app now, please! It’s 2020
  6. Youtube, Sherlock, and Premier League — Watching tech videos (MKBHD fan here, Benedict in a league of his own and Manchester United fan — As it stands, there are some serious problems in their defense)
  7. Special mention to Beatstrumentals playlists on Apple Music. Sound quality is just next level. Apple will always be ahead of competitors in this space for sure.
  8. And yeah playing PES 2021 with my football fanatic fellows.

So far it’s been fun.

It’s almost a laptop replacement.

I have been using my iPad for more than 6 hours a day easily. Sometimes clocking more than 8 hours. Yeah, I am that much into it.

Now the only few scenarios when I need my MacBook Air 2013 in action is -

  1. Using some design tools which are not available for iPad OS yet.
  2. Taking client calls and attending team + other online events. In this case, I use the iPad to take notes. Apple pencil in action. (I have started writing like this after my college days and with such a fantastic piece of tech in hand it feels good to back in grooves of taking notes with a pen/pencil)

The performance is crazy. There are a few cheap alternatives from Samsung but it lacks a few important tablet apps that have become a sort of standard in the creative industry as of now.

Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil are a charm to use along with this iPad. They connect like a SNAP with the help of magnets all over the iPad (inspired by Magneto, powered by Apple).

The camera isn’t that great. Don’t expect it to be anywhere near iPhones for sure. But the microphones are amazing. Voice notes are crisp and videos that I have been making for TikTok (yeah I did that) kinda sound cool.

But, they don’t look that cool. So yeah, I ended up using my phone📱for the final result.

I use a couple of more accessories with this

  1. Logitech M590 Mouse — The trackpad in the Magic Keyboard is amazing but I was always a mouse person.
  2. A Dongle to connect USB A’s and wired headphones. The wired headphones don’t work for calls for some weird reason. Otherwise, I am quite cool with these 2 purchases.
  3. And yeah, I also got a tempered glass screen protector which was less than $8. P helped me to install it. I am quite lame with screen protectors. Always. I wasted close to $50 while doing this for my phone. So yeah, not my thing.

I charge it to 100% once a day. The bundled charger is good enough. It’s a 20W charger and the charging speed is decent. To be honest, my 2 and a half years old OnePlus phone came with a better charging brick out of the box. #justsaying

That’s all from my end for the first few days of iPad Pro.

P.S. I wrote this and everything else on the iPad. This got me back into writing.
