The school holidays, albeit a fun time for kids, are always a challenging time for parents wondering how to keep the kids constructively occupied. The children are excited at the prospect of no early morning alarms, but as the day progresses, they are bored and are constantly pestering their parents for something fun to do. The Culinary Lounge always has the answer to both their problems. This time too, we had 4 days of fun workshops planned for the kids that kept them occupied, and how!

At The Culinary Lounge, we believe cooking can be a lot of fun irrespective of your age. We have always maintained that the earlier kids are introduced to the kitchen, the healthier choices they make as a young adult. Our workshops for the kids, or ‘Impossible Chefs’ as we like to call them are hugely popular for the way we initiate young kids into the culinary world. The life-skill workshops are specially designed to make the sessions fun and informative for our little chefs.

So these Dussehra holidays we had 4 fun days planned for the kids and the response was overwhelming. What was more heartening to see, was that more than the parents, it was the kids who were enthusiastic and excited about the sessions. The first day was ‘On the Grill’ workshop. The menu was carefully planned to make it interesting and healthy for kids. We had Grilled Stuffed Paneer, Achari Pineapple Tikka and Grilled Veg Kabab on the menu for the workshop. For kids, this was cooking with a twist. They had never grilled before and all were looking forward to how it would all turn out. Our in-house chef, Sangeeta Kante has an excellent rapport with the kids and always manages to bring the best out in them.

Day 2 we had the ‘Sizzle Your Way’ workshop in which the kids learnt the art of making a Chinese Sizzler along with Veg Chowmein. The sizzler workshop was indeed unique. The children had eaten sizzlers at some point or the other but had no idea what went behind bringing about the sizzle. The kids all loved the session and all were in awe as one after the other their dishes began to sizzle. They had worked up quite an appetite creating the pieces of art and it took them no time at all to lap it all up.

Day 3 of the workshop took our Impossible Chefs to one of our valued partners; Sage Cafe. Sage Cafe is built and operates on the principles of sustainable living. The zero waste cafe and store is an excellent place for kids to understand the practice of healthy, green and sustainable living. Kavitha Mantha, of Sage Cafe welcomes our children with open arms and was all set to take them into the world of cheese making. Kavitha patiently and painstakingly took the children through each and every step of the process and our kids watched and listened attentively as the process unfolded in front of them. They even got to stretch out some cheese which was very exciting indeed. The children feasted on some delicious pizza, pasta and fresh juices as the process of cheese making came to an end.

The last day of the workshop was a hands-on lesson in dining etiquettes for the children. This session was being conducted by Panache, the Finishing School. Through their experiential teaching methods, Panache makes kids future ready in various aspects of their life. The dining etiquette workshop was carefully planned and curated for kids aged 7 years and above. Teaching them proper table manners and etiquettes was at the heart of this workshop. The kids were carefully taken through a five course meal and they learnt the intricacies of being prim and proper at the dining table at each stage of the meal. The kids enjoyed this session thoroughly as it gave them a different sense of achievement and accomplishment.
