Every Day Is A New Year

January 1st is when many people make a New Year’s resolution. And it might be the beginning of a new calendar year, but that doesn’t mean every day isn’t the beginning of a new year. And whether it’s January 1, or February 21 of 2022, it’s the first and last day of that year — forever.

Making a resolution for the whole year is a setup for failure. Plus, there’s no guarantee you’ll be here all year long, which is probably why most people don’t stick to the commitment in the first place.

It’s not inspiring to give something up. But taking on something new adds a new dimension to your life.

Every day is a gift, and every day is an opportunity for a new beginning. We can get up each morning and be the same person we were the day before, or we can commit to being a better person. This means adding a loving behavior every day. It could be as simple as making the bed, going for a walk, calling to check on a friend, or paying off bills, volunteer work, or a self-help course. You could even save a few dollars every day for something you need or would like to do and haven’t had the money. This past year, I took on a couple of workout challenges that improved my eating and exercising habits even after the workout programs ended. Bad habits are easily forgotten when replaced with practices of self-love.

The best thing about treating every day as a new day is that you only have to live in the moment. Yesterday doesn’t exist, neither does tomorrow. Part of being happy is using our past mistakes to grow and learn instead of rolling around in guilt and remorse. Starting each day with a new resolution for that day only means you get to feel good about yourself all day long.

So don’t wait until January 1, 2022, to make your New Year’s Resolution. You can make a fresh start any day of your choice, then every subsequent day. Pick something that will make you feel good about yourself, and consequently, you might even make someone else feel good, too. And that’s something to celebrate no matter what!
