We’re all looking for certainty!

That is never truer than in what we perceive as deeply uncertain times. We look to our leaders to guide us in such times and one of the great mysteries of leadership and business has been: What makes someone a compelling visionary leader?

What makes someone the kind of leader that inspires a frenzied following that makes people want to become warriors who will fight for such a leader’s cause?

There are, of course, many aspects of being a compelling leader. However, I believe there is one that stands head and shoulders above all others. The most compelling and magnetic pull of a particular individual is the complete conviction with which such a leader communicates their certainty of meaning!

In business and life, it is vitally important that you provide certainty in uncertain times.

We’re all looking for certainty, and that is never truer than in what we perceive as deeply uncertain times. In these times, we can feel like there is nothing solid to hold on too, as such, we can find ourselves grasping in the dark for a handle on something, anything to give us certainty.

When a leader shows up with unwavering certainty about what “it” means we are psychologically compelled toward that person.

The meaning driven leader is the antidote for the creeping disease of doubt that can haunt our dreams.

Certainty Vs Arrogance

Just to be clear: there’s a vast difference between the certainty carried by a meaning-driven leader as a bright light in the darkness for those who need to find their way.

In fact, the certainty of a meaning driven leader is deeply rooted in curiosity. It requires no followers, even though many will be compelled to follow. Meaning driven certainly is paradoxical because it allows for ever-expanding curiosity.

Arrogant “certainty” is void of curiosity because curiosity brings the kind of questions that are intolerable to the arrogant leader.
