Reclaim Your Voice: The Power of a Well-Curated Knowledge Base

We’re in love with the idea of AI giving us permission to be lazy. But what does it cost? It costs you conversion rates, the number of profile visitors, the number of genuine replies, and more.

Truth bomb:

This article will not sugarcoat it, saying out loud what many of us are thinking: bot-generated content lacks finesse, and we can all tell when it’s a bot that has crafted the content.

This article will provide a viable solution to bot-generated nonsense: exploring the fabulous world of well-curated knowledge bases.

For those new to the concept, a knowledge base uses AI in a way that amplifies rather than dilutes your voice/brand.

A bad knowledge base is like stacking hundreds of books in one place and not making a difference between fiction and non-fiction.

A good knowledge base is a well-curated library with well-organized books for easy access and clarity of purpose.

How can you tell if your bot is watering down your voice?

Like many entrepreneurs, Richard (name changed) juggles multiple tasks to keep his business afloat.

One of those tasks involves creating engaging online content.

Maybe you know someone like him.

Richard knows the importance of maintaining an online presence; he spends many late nights creating content for social media.

But those late nights are taking a toll.

Richard is feeling drained, and his frustration has hit the roof.

Desperate for a solution, Richard turns to a chatbot to handle content creation. But guess what? It backfires big time.

The bot-generated content is watering down Richard’s voice. As a result, his readers are tuning out one by one.

You can spot bot-diluted content a mile away. Readers hit back with comments like, “Tweak your agent,” “That was dry as sand,” or my favourite, “Why are you doing this to me?”

I highly doubt Richard signed up for more work and headaches. He genuinely thought the bot would save him time.

What Richard didn’t know: Bots require a well-curated knowledge base on top of training for peak performance.

Let me put it to you this way:

You wouldn’t run a marathon on an empty stomach, right? You’d decide on a training program and choose your nutrition carefully.

Using a bot to generate content without a well-crated knowledge base is like running a marathon on an empty stomach. No one gets far on that strategy.

So, let me ask you.

What if Richard implemented a solution that amplified his voice instead of diluting it? What do you imagine that would be worth to him? Or to you for that matter?

Were you sold on a chatbot’s potential?

Buying into potential is a dangerous game where the winning prize is a sense of failure.

Let me be clear.

‘Potential’ is a state where we hope something might happen. That something hasn’t happened yet. It can only come true (realized) IF certain conditions get met.

Potential is an “IF” game. It’s not the real thing.

Companies like OpenAI, Google, and Meta love hyping the potential of their AI products.

When ChatGPT first emerged, OpenAI made us believe it was the best thing invented since sliced bread. The company downplayed the bugs, the (alleged) copyright infringements, and the lack of privacy/ethics guardrails, to name a few.

Recently, OpenAI launched ChatGPT4-o (o for omni). And it’s now telling us that ChatGPT was the dumbest model we’ll ever have to work with.

Potentiality looks at something as “what it could be.” It doesn’t mean it will happen.
Potentiality

Were you sold on a chatbot’s potential? Here are two telling signs:

You gave a vague instruction (prompt) and thought ChatGPT would fill in the gaps in your thinking.

You gave ChatGPT a few-shot examples of your desired outcome(s) and hoped it delivered top-notch content, even though it had no access to a well-curated knowledge base of your content.

I could give you more examples, but you get what I’m saying.

ChatGPT (or any AI) cannot replace the Emotional Intelligence (EI) skills needed for building a knowledge base and the mega-prompts (a must in content creation) to back it up.

Have you fallen victim to bot-generated nonsense?

Richard reminds me of Hagrid, the famous Keeper of Keys, beloved of magical creatures, and groundkeeper at Hogwarts in the book series Harry Potter.

Hagrid is authentic. He speaks from the heart.

Hagrid is a walking library of practical knowledge. Ask him about magical creatures (his expertise), and he’ll spill out details galore.

Richard is very much like Hagrid. He strives to be authentic in all his dealings. He loves sharing his expertise, offering wisdom and guidance to those who seek it.

So, you can imagine how he felt when a reader told him, “Why are you doing this to me?” He knew his secret was out: he had been using bots in a way that diluted his voice and got found out.

Signs you got exposed to a bot’s nonsense:

Bot-generated content/replies are literal or clinical. No goosebumps or head nodding there.

A lot of big words try to fill the space. For example, “Jargon often falls short of understanding human emotions and nuances. This disconnect leads to impersonal interactions and disengaged audiences.” Lots and lots of big words that make us go, “Uh?”

Jargon

Richard is not alone. His story is a synonym of the “Chatbot-uh?” saga we are witnessing online. As he soon discovered, there is another way.

How can we measure Emotional Intelligence (EI)?

Clients often ask me how to gauge how effective EI strategies are with AI.

For starters, look at

a) your conversion rate (the % of people buying your product/service after seeing your offer). Is it climbing? What’s the real cause?

b) the number of your site/profile visitors: engaging content makes people curious to know more.

c) the number of genuine replies to your posts, articles, tweets, and newsletters: Are people feeling pulled to leave thoughtful replies? Are they sharing their work or experiences with you?

We can all tell when a reply is genuine.
Genuine reply

Refrain from letting the number of impressions or the number of replies lead you astray. I’ve seen posts with hundreds of likes, but most of its comments came from bots. At the time, I remember thinking, “Why are you doing this to me?” Maybe they had yet to discover emotionally intelligent personal AI assistants.

Let me help.

What is a knowledge base and how do you build a well-curated one?

A knowledge base uses AI in a way that amplifies rather than dilutes your voice/brand. It is a well-curated repository (library) of your works, organized for easy access and clarity of purpose.

Your content (not some bot-generated nonsense) is the star of the show. Your content includes your written articles, posts, newsletters, summarized books, etc.

Not all knowledge bases are created equal. Some contain between 30,000–50,000 words. Others, like ChatGPT’s, have trillions of words.

Not everything you have published goes into your knowledge base. You must decide your offer, and you must choose your content wisely.

Choose the content that best reflects your voice, brand, values, and strategy.

Group your content into categories and sub-categories. That ensures you can quickly locate what you want.

Well-curated knowledge base

You want to present your information in a way that is intuitive and highly performing.

Richard (remember our entrepreneur?) said he did all that. So, why was he still getting dry-as-sand bot-generated content?

I asked Richard to show me the prompts he used. I was not surprised. His prompts were vague.

Here’s an example of a vague prompt: “Act like a world-famous copywriter and write a 1,000-word article based on this [insert content.]

Where’s the business value proposition in that prompt?

The bot must learn who the writer is, what they do, where they do it, and whom they do it for. Otherwise, the bot is acting ‘blind’ from the get-go.

If the content lacks structure, precision, and simple language, the resulting bot-generated article might get replies like, “Tweak your agent.”

It can seem like a lot to grasp at once. Maybe you believed you could throw all your content into one place and call it a day.

Let me bring it home for you.

Unless you want to spend countless hours training in EI, AI, and strategic planning, building your knowledge base on your own might feel like climbing Mount Everest as a novice. It’s not the best course of action.

You might not know me. So, let me tell you who I am.

My name is Anne Beaulieu. I am an Emotional Intelligence Coach and Mega-Prompt Engineer for ChatGPT. I am certified in Generative AI Fundamentals and Responsible AI, to name a few.
