What did one plate say to the other plate?

Dinner is on me!

Okay, okay, okay, I could not help but open with a ‘dad joke’ I shared with my daughters last night. Since we are all getting to spend time around the table or the island in our kitchen, I have been trying out new material on them.

This one, however, fell flat.

All I received were blank stares from my daughters, and head shaking from my wife. Clearly, it was a winner with older children. Or maybe it needed more set up. Who knows?

Fatherhood In Light of COVID-19

While we can tell ‘dad jokes’ all day since many of us around the world are stuck at home because of COVID-19, we also have a more serious side to the outbreak.

As parents, we have to be thinking about keeping our families safe, as well as our elderly parents if we care for them too.

And while these are uncertain times, I want to encourage you. The way you respond to this world crisis will shape your children.

Maybe, your children are small like mine, and all they know is daddy is working from home all the time now. Or maybe, they are older and they understand the weight of the virus.

Either way, your job, dad is to bring protection, confidence, and peace to your children at home. And so, as we look to this month in writing at The Dad Hammer Pub, we are looking for stories where we can lift each other up, and lift our families up.

Here are three writing prompts for the Month of April:

  1. What are the things you are doing with your kids while the entire family is home? Games, School, Projects, etc.
  2. How are you explaining COVID-19, national or state lockdown to your kids?
  3. What are you doing to take care of yourself, your family, and your neighbor during the crisis?

Of course, we are taking submissions for other topics, but I would love to hear what others are doing during this time!
