Community Governance (POC)
Buidling Trust to Empower Users and Developers!
What & Why?
What problems do we aim to solve?
DApps are what drives user adoption on chains. DApp listing platforms act as the enabler, connecting DApps to the end-users and enabling discovery. These two are tied together — one builds, the other one takes it to the users .
But what happens when one entity is not really building but the other one markets it?
Duh! New users get attracted to try the product & after a certain point the user loses the trust due to underdelivery.
Bad User Experience & not good for adoption
The solution.
We’re working on Community Governance to tackle this problem (we will continually improve/upgrade this mechanism)
Community has always been & will always be the most important part in making a product go from good to great. It plays a lot of roles in the process — researching, ideating, providing feedback, testing products, governance & marketing.
Community is built on a belief/idea that drives it and hence we want to empower them via community governance of the platform.
How TheDappList voting mechanism works
- Every DApp that is registered to get listed on Dapplist via thedapplist.com/list-your-dapp, will undergo a strictcommunity voting process (at thedapplist.com/vote)to get listed.
- These voting rounds will run every week, starting from Monday and ending on Friday.
- At the end of the voting period, the top 5 voted DApps will be removed from the voting dashboard & will start getting listed from the following Monday.
- Also, new DApps will be added to the voting dashboard every Monday. The counter of DApp votes is reset to be fair to the new ones when the voting starts every week.
For instance, suppose 20 DApps filled the form this week until Sunday EOD. Next Monday, those DApps will be listed on the voting dashboard thedapplist.com/vote. Voting will start from the day they’re listed & will run until Friday. Every last vote until Friday will be counted and the top 5 DApps will be pulled out from the dashboard. These DApps will start getting listed from the following Monday.
Now, let’s understand the voting cycle — once the top 5 DApps are pulled out from the dashboard, the votecount of the remaining DApps (15 in this example + new DApps) goes to 0 on the next Monday & the voting starts again. This makes the process fair for the new joiners in the list.
Why take so much effort to list?
This keeps the platform clutter free & acts as a place for users to find limited but genuine DApps. We don’t aim to provide an exhaustive list, but a smaller and more functional list instead.
How does it help the DAppers (DApp makers)?
Every DApp that gets listed:
- Will be covered in ‘This week in DApps’ — to share their updates with the community
- Can avail a banner for their future campaign/marketing for 24 hours (once) to help with discovery
Also, last but not least
Only the DApps listed on the platform get to run ads on The DApp List & can proceed to apply for a community funding round (more details to be released soon).
Happy Voting!
