The Data Place is growing and we need help; we’re looking for people with data, research and problem-solving skills to assist on a diverse range of projects — starting as soon as possible.

Since we opened our doors just over a year and a half ago our offering has expanded from a data publishing platform to a much broader portfolio of software and services that bring together data, technology and design for a positive social, environmental and economic impact.

Now with clients across the public services, higher education and business — both in the UK and abroad — we’re looking to achieve sustainable growth by finding one or more talented people who can be part of our team.

Ideally you’ll be a recent graduate or post-graduate with a data- or business-related degree, or someone who’s worked with data for a few years. You’ll be interested in applying data techniques and tools to real problems and challenging projects. We’re based in Plymouth but our team works all over the place, so we’d like it if you were local but we can be flexible.

Many of our projects are at the intersection of data and social value, so you should be as interested in the social value element as you are in the data methods: specifically we need help with things like:

  • Helping us work out how people should manage their data internally and comply with things like GDPR
  • Helping visualise data using tools like PowerBI or Tableau
  • Helping us run workshops where we gather people’s ideas and challenge them to do different things with their data
  • Helping write reports and presentations that persuade people to open up their data
  • Wrangling and cleaning data to prepare it for publishing
  • Helping set up events and workshops that involve people in the data about their area

These are part-time positions to begin with. Get in touch with me on Twitter or through our contact form if you want to chat.

The Data Place helps people and places thrive through better data discovery, publishing and use. We’re a social enterprise, bringing together infrastructure, data skills, human-centred design and open source development. Find out more: https://thedata.place/.
