How User Experience Ruined the World
and Ai is helping it!
The Introduction of Easy
Presenting the method to use a product even if you don’t know how to use it and the good news is you don’t have to learn to use it too.
The device will think on its own. It will judge the environment and function on its own.
You just have to place it in the right position in your surroundings. Sometime soon the device will place itself in the right position too. As of now just some of them can do that.
Now just click a button to make it work.
No need to learn. No need to go through practice. The machine knows. You just have to watch it do its work.
The complex world, the world ruled by laws and formulas is now possible to execute with a click of a button. It started from calculating with fingers and then using physical objects to finally doing the calculation on writing till eventually the process was shifted to a calculator.
Well now we just pick up your calculator (or the calculator app in your smartphone) tap, tap, tap, and there you go, that’s the bill amount. A wonderful tool indeed!
Want to build a website on your own but don’t know coding and don’t want to hire a developer or go through hours of programming tutorials? You just have to drag and drop your title, images, text, etc. and your website will be ready in a few clicks.
Want to click awesome pictures like the one you saw on Instagram? But you have no idea how to twist the DSLR camera lens! Don’t worry, grab your camera, Switch to auto mode, and there you go, your camera will calculate the Exposure, ISO, Shutter Speed, and all the other technical requirements with the algorithm inside it so you don’t have to learn (or remember) anything here too.
Everything now seems simpler to execute. It is that you now don’t have to invest time in understanding “How Things work?” as it just works like a typewriter worked.
You just had to find the letters and push it until it responds with a clicked sound and see the letter appear on the sheet. You don’t have to think how it does it, you just have to do it.
It is a good experience to have to do things without having to think too much.
The new situation
AI now is almost integrated into everything. AI is also something that just works, and no one has to peep inside the machine or software to know about it.
You just have to know what that piece of code does and provide a user-accessible method of implementation for anyone to use it. If you see an AI model, you just have to type in your imagination and a picture will appear, that’s all.
It’s the magic of AI and fundamentals of User Experience to make it feel like instant access to the “AI Aladin lamp”
The experience thing
Knowledge is a different kind of substance that cannot be owned but we can experience it and the experience shapes our view of the world.
There may be practical experience to gain knowledge. We can gain knowledge by reading, listening, or maybe just watching, but the most effective is doing.
Once we do something we gain a level deeper than the normal line. We gain a depth of knowledge by doing things and it may be essential or at least give meaning to us being humans.
The basic difference between humans and any other organism is that Humans think. And this thinking has led humanity to exactly where we are today.
Thinking provides us a doorway to think of things that haven’t existed and pushes us to almost create it in real life. But the fuel to thinking is the knowledge we own by experiences or doing things.
If you have no idea of the layer beneath whatever in the world you are interacting with, you probably won’t be thinking much as there is nothing special to think about at the surface level.
If you don’t like how things are and you are voicing your opinion without looking inside your discomfort, it can be easily categorized as murmuring You as a human being with the ability to bring changes not ready to look under the hood but just explain how things were not as per your requirements.
The future demands humans to be dumb!
Looks like it.
If you want to start programming, you don’t have to brush through pages or reach page 2 of Google as Chat GPT will directly spit out the answers.
If you want to build a website, try something like WIX, you don’t have to code.
If you want to create music, you don’t need a producer to mix, AI can do it and you will be pretty much happy with the results.
As a consumer, these tools are good. And since while using these tools, people will be muting their skills, there is no growth but there is a better result.
You don’t have to learn anymore, you go AI to cover it for you. A good user experience will make you forget the line between you and the technology.
The less we reason, the less we grow.
But with User Experience so good to make someone feel like they are smart by just releasing the right chemicals in their brain on the sight of the output without realizing how it came up with answers, I think people won’t think anymore.
Somebody thought to make the computer more humanlike.
Somebody helped the computer to mimic the human brain.
Somebody extended it to assist us in human labor.
Somebody tried to make it think like a human but without the memory disadvantages of the brain as it already could grasp information faster.
And once it had learned Somebody fine-tuned it to answer like a human.
When it began answering almost humanely we began to trust its answers and it was just eliminating the need for you to remember or think more often than you used to.
Now you don’t know as much as you think you know!
Conclusion
The user experience of technology has made it easier and faster for humans to do tasks without needing to understand the underlying mechanics or concepts.
While this may appear convenient and enjoyable, it also limits us the ability to think creatively, and critically about the world around us.
By depending too much on AI and other automated technologies, we risk losing our human edge of curiosity, ingenuity, and problem-solving.
