A Snapchat video of a female student wearing blackface surfaced on social media on Nov. 14. The woman in the video said, “I am a strong black woman,” and proceeded to put on red plastic lips.

The Snapchat video was accompanied by the caption, “this is why black lives matter exists.”

Although the individuals responsible for the video have not been identified by name, according to a statement released by ACU, they have been expelled. In a statement released by the university on Twitter, the school said that “harassment of any kind is not tolerated” and that “action is being taken to minimize the spread of this senseless attempt to make fun of others.”

In addition, the university stated that the students involved in the video met with ACU’s deputy anti-harassment coordinator and dean of students.

The statement noted that following the incident the university’s staff believes that “[the university community] must and can do better as [they] work together to build an inclusive, diverse campus community in which each person is respected and loved.”
