On Thursday, Sept. 15, a student from Kansas State University posted a Snapchat where she and another woman appeared in dark clay face masks with the caption, “Feels good to finally be a n**ga.” The other woman in the photo is not affiliated with the university, according to university officials.

Pat Bosco, Kansas State University’s Vice President for Student Life, released a statement regarding the incident in which he said that “there is no place for for racism at [the] university” and that “K-State prides itself on being one family, no matter your race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation or abilities.” Kansas State has also released a statement saying that the student is no longer a student at the university, according to Fusion.

In a status posted on her Facebook page, Paige Shoemaker apologized for her actions. She wrote that they “never intended for the picture to offend anyone” and will “be better and make sure to do more than someone who is a true racist.” However, she also said that it was “NOT blackface, but it was a L’Oreal face mask.”

When reached for comment, Shoemaker originally said she would be willing to discuss the story behind the Snapchat photo. However, when asked to schedule a time, she did not reply.
